  • ½ cup all purpose flour
  • ½ cup brown sugar (packed)
  • ¼ cup butter (softened)
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 5 large apples (peeled, cored and thinly sliced)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2-3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 - tablespoons corn starch


Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Lightly butter an 8-inch (20cm) round or square baking pan.
  3. In a bowl, mix the flour, brown sugar, softened butter, ground cinnamon, and salt until crumbly.
  4. In another bowl, combine the sliced apples with lemon juice, ground cinnamon, and brown sugar. Toss well to coat the apples evenly.
  5. Spread the apple mixture in the prepared baking pan.
  6. Sprinkle the crumbly mixture over the apples, then top with corn starch to help thicken the juices during baking.
  7. Bake for about 85 minutes or until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown.

Notes

Feel free to use a mix of apples for a more complex flavor.
Serve warm with vanilla ice cream for an extra treat!
