Ingredients
Scale
- 2 pounds ground beef
- 1 medium yellow onion diced
- 2 garlic cloves minced
- 3 pounds chopped cabbage
- 29 ounces tomato sauce
- 1 cup uncooked white rice
- 2 teaspoons dry parsley
- 1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon dry dill
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 3/4 cups beef broth
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Spray a 9×13 inch baking dish with cooking spray and set it aside.
- In a large skillet, cook the ground beef, breaking it apart. Once cooked, add the diced onion and minced garlic. Cook for 5 to 7 minutes until the beef is fully browned, then drain the excess grease.
- In two large bowls, combine the beef mixture with chopped cabbage, tomato sauce, uncooked rice, dry parsley, kosher salt, dry dill, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly and transfer the mixture into the prepared baking dish. You can divide it between the two bowls or mix everything in one bowl before transferring.
- Pour beef broth over the casserole. Cover with foil and bake for 1 hour. Stir the mixture, re-cover, and continue baking for another 30 to 40 minutes until the rice is fully cooked. Serve topped with sour cream.
Notes
For added flavor, consider using seasoned tomato sauce or adding cheese on top before baking.
Make sure to adjust the salt based on your preference, especially if using table salt instead of kosher salt.
