This Chicken Paprikash features tender chicken simmered in a rich, paprika-infused sauce, creating a comforting dish perfect for cozy family nights.
Ingredients

- 3 lb bone-in, skin-on chicken drumsticks and thighs
- Salt & pepper
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 3 tbsp butter
- 1 large onion, diced
- 1 red bell pepper, diced
- 1 large tomato, diced
- 4 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp tomato paste
- 3 tbsp Hungarian sweet paprika
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1/2 tsp hot paprika or a pinch of cayenne pepper
- 2 cups chicken broth
- 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup sour cream
- 1 small lemon, juice of
- 2 tbsp fresh parsley, minced (optional)
Instructions
- Season chicken with salt and pepper and sear in olive oil and butter until browned.
- Sauté onion, bell pepper, tomato, and garlic until softened; stir in tomato paste and paprika.
- Add chicken broth and return chicken to pot; simmer for 45 minutes covered.
- Whisk sour cream with flour; temper and add to sauce, cooking until thickened.
- Add lemon juice, adjust seasoning, garnish with parsley, and serve.
Notes
For gluten-free, swap flour with cornstarch or gluten-free thickener.
Boneless chicken may be used; adjust cooking time to 25-30 minutes.
Store leftovers in an airtight container for 3-4 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
