Description

This Chicken Paprikash features tender chicken simmered in a rich, paprika-infused sauce, creating a comforting dish perfect for cozy family nights.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 lb bone-in, skin-on chicken drumsticks and thighs
  • Salt & pepper
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 1 red bell pepper, diced
  • 1 large tomato, diced
  • 4 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 3 tbsp Hungarian sweet paprika
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp hot paprika or a pinch of cayenne pepper
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup sour cream
  • 1 small lemon, juice of
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley, minced (optional)


Instructions

  • Season chicken with salt and pepper and sear in olive oil and butter until browned.
  • Sauté onion, bell pepper, tomato, and garlic until softened; stir in tomato paste and paprika.
  • Add chicken broth and return chicken to pot; simmer for 45 minutes covered.
  • Whisk sour cream with flour; temper and add to sauce, cooking until thickened.
  • Add lemon juice, adjust seasoning, garnish with parsley, and serve.

Notes

For gluten-free, swap flour with cornstarch or gluten-free thickener.
Boneless chicken may be used; adjust cooking time to 25-30 minutes.
Store leftovers in an airtight container for 3-4 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
