Ingredients
Scale
- 1 ⅓ cups warm water
- 1 packet instant dry yeast (2 ¼ teaspoons)
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon olive oil or preferred oil
- 1 ½ teaspoons salt
- 3 ⅓ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon water
- 2 tablespoons melted salted butter
Instructions
- Combine warm water, instant dry yeast, granulated sugar, olive oil, salt, and all-purpose flour in the bowl of a stand mixer.
- Knead on low speed until combined, then increase to medium speed and knead until the dough forms a smooth and soft texture, about 6-8 minutes.
- Transfer the dough to an oiled bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place until it doubles in size, approximately 1 hour.
- Once risen, punch the dough down, place it on the counter, and divide it into 12 equal pieces.
- Shape each piece into a tight ball and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover them and allow to rise for another 30 minutes until puffy.
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). In a small bowl, mix the egg with 1 tablespoon of water to create an egg wash and brush it over the dough.
- Score the top of each roll if desired, making ¼-inch deep slashes.
- Place the rolls in the oven and add a handful of ice cubes to the bottom to create steam. Bake for 18-20 minutes until golden brown.
- Remove the rolls from the oven, brush with melted salted butter, and serve warm.
Notes
For a golden crust, ensure to brush the rolls with egg wash before baking.
Adding ice cubes creates steam for a chewy crust, enhancing the texture.
