Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb. ground beef
- ¼ cup uncooked quick oats
- 1 teaspoon worcestershire sauce
- kosher salt and ground black pepper
- ⅛ teaspoon garlic powder
- ⅛ teaspoon onion powder
- ¼ cup milk (i use 2%)
- 4 tablespoons butter, divided
- 1 small onion, thinly sliced
- 16 ounces fresh sliced mushrooms
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ cups low-sodium beef broth
- ¼ cup red wine (or substitute with additional beef broth)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, gently mix together ground beef, oats, Worcestershire sauce, ½ teaspoon salt, ¼ teaspoon pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and milk.
- Shape the mixture into 4 oval patties, about ½-inch thick. Place them on a parchment-lined tray, cover loosely, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or overnight if preferred.
- Heat 1 tablespoon of butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the patties and cook until browned on both sides, about 3 minutes per side. Remove and set aside on a plate.
- In the same skillet, melt the remaining 3 tablespoons of butter over medium-high heat. Add the sliced onion and sauté until softened, about 5 to 7 minutes.
- Introduce the sliced mushrooms and ½ teaspoon salt, cooking for an additional 5 minutes.
- Stir in the tomato paste and flour, cooking for 2 minutes. Gradually stir in the beef broth and red wine, bringing the mixture to a simmer.
- Return the browned patties to the skillet. Cover, reduce heat to medium-low, and simmer for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the patties are fully cooked. Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper as needed.
Notes
For extra flavor, let the patties rest overnight in the fridge before cooking.
You can substitute red wine with more beef broth if preferred.
Serve with mashed potatoes or rice for a complete meal.
