- 1 9-inch deep-dish pie crust unbaked
- 1/2 cup refried beans
- 1 pound ground beef
- 2 tablespoons taco seasoning
- 1 tablespoon dried minced onion or 1/4 cup finely diced yellow onion
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 cup chunky salsa
- 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese divided
- 1 cup crushed tortilla chips or fritos

Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F.
- Place the unbaked pie crust in a pie dish if not already done and poke the bottom with a fork.
- In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat and drain excess grease.
- Stir in the taco seasoning, dried minced onion, water, and salsa; simmer for 2–3 minutes until thickened.
- Remove from heat and fold in half of the cheese.
- Spread the refried beans in a single layer at the bottom of the pie crust.
- Top with the cooked beef mixture followed by crushed tortilla chips or Fritos, and the remaining cheese.
- Bake for 25–30 minutes until the crust is golden and the filling is bubbly. Allow to rest for 10 minutes before serving.
- Add taco garnishes if desired.
Notes
For a vegetarian option, substitute ground beef with black beans or lentils.
